1880s John Edwards English Staffordshire Bowls, Pair
1880s John Edwards English Staffordshire Bowls, Pair
A lovely pair of large ironstone decorative bowls adorned with beautiful sprays of pink dogwood blossoms and green serrated leaves by British pottery maker, John Edwards of Stoke on Trent. Founded in 1847, this venerable fabricator produced its wares under the name of John Edwards from 1847 - 1873 and then as John Edwards & Co. from 1873 to 1900. The mark on the underside (as shown) is from the latter time period and includes the name "Hedgerow". We believe this to be a very rare pattern as our research turns up no previous sales of this pattern nor current items for sale.
Dimensions: 9.2ʺW × 9.2ʺD × 2ʺH
Very good antique condition; crazing, two shallow cracks, and one instance of edge roughness, none of which detract from the appearance.
