1880s Johnson Brothers English Ironstone Bowls, Set of 4
Late 19thC English ironstone from prestigious Johnson Brothers of Stoke on Trent, Staffordshire. This lovely small dishes have an unique shape -- two sides straight, the other two scalloped curves. The interior has a fluted surface on the curved sides and a sloped surface on the straight. A white center is surrounded with sprays of blue, pink, and yellow flowers. These would be perfect to serve sorbet, sauces, or fruit. The pieces bear the Johnson Brothers "Royal Warrant" mark, a designation of being a purveyor to the Royal Household, and dates from 1883 - 1913.
Dimensions: 4.8ʺW × 4.4ʺD × 1ʺH
Very good antique condition; no chips, no cracks. The almost 140 years of enjoyment has produced crazing, minor stains, and a couple of places of roughness along the edges.
