Lovely handpainted porcelain match box keeper / match strike with attached ashtray. Lovely floral sprays adorn the matchbox tower and tray edges. Designed to hold a small box of wood matches in the center well with open sides to allow the match to be struck on the side of the box. The attached tray serves as a repositoriy for burnt matches and cigarette ash. Signed by the artist en verso, "Seymour Gardner" (?). No maker's marks but believed to be from the 1920s.
Very good antique condition; tiny chip and minor vertical crack in oval border of matchbox holder opening but neither detracts from appearance or function.
